Dear FAC community,

Please join us THIS WEEKEND for the estate/moving sale of longtime FAC
community member Martha Forsyth and our family. The house is being sold,
and I can only keep so many of her many beautiful, functional, and
interesting possessions.

Dance community/family/friends only from 10am to 12:30pm both Saturday &
Sunday; items of particular interest to her community are being kept aside
in a separate room, which (until Sunday afternoon) will not be open to the
public.

NEW ADDITION: Several friends are organizing an effort to rescue plants
from the yard before the house is sold. This will be Sunday afternoon
12:30pm to 4:00pm (immediately following the community sale hours). Please
see their detailed message immediately below.

Finally, there is a PUBLICLY SHAREABLE summary mentioning ONLY the public
hours at the very bottom; please feel free to share that anywhere you like.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the sale -- hopefully on one of the
mornings!
-Pete(r)

GARDEN RESCUE PARTY DETAILS:

hi to all,

Besides the household and cultural items that Pete is selling, another part
of Martha's legacy is in the various plantings around the yard. Martha was
an enthusiastic and energetic gardener and took immense pleasure in
cultivating and tending her plantings. The plantings that remain in the
yard now are, not imposing or formal, but more friendly and charming, like
the zdravets (perennial geranium) for which her local "friendly
neighborhood Bulgarian band" is named. Here's a listing of the flowering
plants/shrubs that we noted in Martha's yard last weekend:

Flowering plants (one or two of most)

  • Asiatic lilies

  • iris

  • bloodroot

  • mini Solomon seal

  • bluebells

  • monarda

  • Christmas fern

  • nepeta

  • columbine

  • painted fern

  • daffodils

  • peony

  • goldenrod

  • rodgersia

  • gooseneck loosestrife

  • sedum

  • hosta

  • zdravets

Shrubs

  • forsythia

  • lilac

  • mock orange

  • mountain laurel

And... trees

  • Japanese maple

  • Redbud

Those of you who are interested in preserving a piece of this aspect of
Martha's life are invited to come to the house at 51 Davis Ave. in W.
Newton, this Sunday, June 29, from 12:30 pm -- 4:00 pm, to dig up and take
home a piece of her plantings for yourself or others. Another day for
digging up plantings may be planned for later in the summer, likely in late
July or early August; make sure one of us knows if you're interested in
that. Sadly, some of the front and back yards have already been dug up by
the buyers; we can't guarantee that you'll be able to get a particular
plant. But we'll be there to help you find plantings you're interested in
and would like to bring home. Please bring your own trowels/shovels and
pots/bags. If you have questions, please email one of us (our email
contacts are included below) and not Pete, who’s so busy organizing the
indoor sales.

With love,

Jane Katz (jarebka@yahoo.com, Henry Goldberg (henrybgoldberg@gmail.com),
